WE LEARN ABOUT BIRDS OF PREY AND THEIR FLIGHT
On Wednesday 18th May Ian Patterson from Gilford visited school to present his birds of prey to the pupils. There were two workshops: one for P.1 - P.3 and one for P.4 - P.7. The older pupils enjoyed it a lot and learnt lots of new things. They learnt that birds are heavy - when they landed on our arm the arm dropped with the weight of the bird. Pupils viewed an owl, a kestrel and a buzzard. Pupils learnt about how birds see and hear and how they react to people and other stimulus. The wood owl eats 5,000 mice a year. These mice are diseased and sick so the wood owl is doing us all a great favour by preventing this vermin entering the human food chain. Look at the pictures here to learn more!
