To London in a Lifeboat
As part of our Rights Respecting lessons in school the children in Primary 2 looked at Article 22 and used the experiences of Paddington Bear to understand the challenges, difficulties and dangers that refugee children face when fleeing conflict or persecution. This is very much linked to this year's Trocaire campaign. Maya is one of the little girls who is a Syrian refugee and can be seen on the front of the Trocaire box.
The children listened to a summary of the story of Paddington and were then organized into groups and given a copy of a suitcase and a set of 12 picture cards.
The children had to imagine that they had been told they need to leave their home and didn't know when they would return. In their groups the children had to decide which four items from the twelve they would put in their suitcase.
Each group discussed what they put in their suitcase and why.
