Primary 5 Viking trip

Primary 5 went on a very enjoyable trip to the St. Patrick’s Centre, Downpatrick as part of their WAU topic – The Vikings. We had an overview of local history in the morning- starting with the Celts, St. Patrick and then Vikings. We delved back into the world of Magnus Barelegs, the only Viking king to be killed outside of Scandanavia who is buried in Downpatrick. We looked at how the Vikings lived, their weapons and how they changed our area through art, drama and fun activities.   We finished the day with a walk to Down Cathedral to visit where the remains of St. Patrick are buried.
