Practical Numeracy
This week P2 had been using coins to work out different ways of making the value from 11p to 20p. They had 1ps, 2ps, 5ps, and 10ps to help them work out which coins to use. The aim was to use less 1p coins - if they had 2 1ps they had to exchange it for a 2p. There was lots of discussion and exchanging!
Then we we looked at measure and length. The children had to organise a set of snakes in order starting from the longest to the shortest. There was shared worked based on the concept of measuring/comparing the lengths before putting them in order but investigation was harder than they expected.
Some tables had to fix their final piece, when they looked at the completed result they could see there were some snakes in the wrong place.
