P5 trip to Navan Fort (Articles 28, 29 and 31)

Article 28 Right to education, article 29 Goals of education and Article 31 Right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

Primary 5 had a fantastic start to this year with a trip to Navan Fort on Wednesday 13th September. It was a fantastic day related to their World Around Us Topic for this term- “The Vikings.”

Our students encountered a real life Viking who was very vicious! We looked at Viking weaponry and found out all about their way of life. Some of our children even made a Viking shield wall.

Some of our pupils then have the chance to dress up as monks and, using quills and ink, practice writing as scribes! Our hands got really messy and it was really hard to write with ink. Thank goodness we use pencils and pens!

They learned about the legacy left by St Patrick and the Book of Armagh written by the monks in Armagh at the time of the first Viking invasions.

We tried our hand at ancient Runic writing- children making a bookmark with their names. A truly memorable day!
