P3/4 enjoy an Autumn Walk (Article 29 - Aims of Education)

15th Oct 2020

Article 29: The aims of education.

Primary 3&4 went on a lovely Autumn walk.  We looked for signs of autumn in our locality. It was a beautiful sunny October autumn morning. It was so nice to get out in the fresh air. We saw beautiful coloured leaves from green, yellow, gold, red, wine, brown and yellow. We found berries, conkers, acorns and cones. We checked our hedgehog home to see if we could see any signs of hibernation. We plan to watch and look at the trees through the other seasons.

Ruby invited us in for a cup of tea but unfortunately due to the new restrictions we couldn’t allow 30 children to go!! Then Matthew wanted to introduce us to Granny and Granda but they weren’t there. We met Matthew’s Granda last year when cousin Fionn wanted us to met his Granda. We were then invited up the Leitrim Road by Ollie and Niall but we had to go back to school, sorry. Maybe next time!!!!

No trip to the Bann River is complete without throwing stones in the river. Mrs O’Hare remembers doing this as a child. The next day Primary 3 wrote about the signs of Autumn. We even did some awareness on road safety: remembering to stop, look and listen when crossing the road. Probably one of the most valuable lessons we can teach our children.

Primary 4 continued their learning by using lots of interesting adjectives and verbs to describe the colour, feel and flight of leaves: Colours, crunchy, crispy, wet, dry, rough, slippery, slimy, swirling, twirling, dancing, a carpet of leaves and many more.

Thank God for the wonderful season of Autumn and the beauty all around us here in the Hilltown area!
