What a successful day we had today for our first ever Market Day at St Patrick’s. Mrs O’Neill, Mrs Austin and Ms McNeill planned the event as part of a team project for our Right’s Respecting and Eco Teams and our student council. This venture was to help our children understand and see the global goals in practice, help our children learn and see first hand how we can support and help others through buying local goods.
We had such wonderful support from our community and have raised £291 for TrÅcaire! As a charity TrÅcaire helps children all over the world receive what they have right to. As a school we are continuing with helping our children understand and know the UNICEF Rights of a Child. Articles 24 and 27 state that Children have the right to Health, water, food, safe and healthy environment as well as clothing and a safe home. We know the money raised will help children less fortunate than ourselves.
It was lovely to be able to welcome our local community in to sell their home made products. A special thank you to Morgan’s Potatoes Cabra, Susie’s honey, Maggie’s bakes, Nana D, Lorraine, Shauna Brown-Norwex cleaning products, our Parent’s Association, Canning family, Brennans Ice-Cream, JMC Occasions (Cards and crafts), Jerome Johnson, LD Crafts and our Primary 6 scientists.
Our children worked so hard and really enjoyed the experience, showing out community what great teamwork can achieve!
This was practical mathematics week and our pupils were able to join in the selling and purchasing of many items. They all really enjoyed the experience. Article 31- We all enjoyed our right to rest and play afterward!
Our eco team were keen to keep our environmental impacts as low as possible so we made sure to use biodegradable cloths on our tables to reduce any plastic waste. We had a second hand book sale to encourage us to reuse our books and not throw them away.
