Irish News Critical Literacy Project
Primary 7 pupils have started an eight-week programme based on the Irish News Newspaper Literacy Project. It is designed to help pupils become young news readers. The school edition has a special guest editor, Annette Kelly. Throughout the eight week project pupils will have the opportunity to engage with Annette by creating positive thoughts of their own and emailing them to The Irish News. The ‘thought of the week’ chosen by Annette, will win a bestselling ‘Little Penny Thought’s’ book and be published in the school edition of The Irish News. This aspect of the project will help to promote a positive school environment.
At the end of the project all pupils will receive a certificate of participation.
Pupils are thoroughly enjoying learning about all aspects of a newspaper.
