Collins Big Cat Reading Scheme has provided a fantastic resource to allow children to continue reading at their level. As teachers and parents know it is very difficult to source the correct reading material for children in Foundation and Key Stage One.
It is recommended that P1 use the pink and red bands, P2 use the yellow, blue and green bands and P3 use the orange and turquoise bands. There are fiction and non-fiction books for each level. Non-fiction books are always much more difficult. Use the non-fiction readers to challenge the child. Move up or down the colour bands depending on the child's ability. The ebooks can be read independently by children or a child can be supported by the reader on the website.
There is an activity at the end of each book to allow the children to consolidate what they have read.
There are also worksheets available for the child to use. Children can record their answers in an exercise book. Teacher support notes are also available and parents can use these notes as a teaching guide.
