Canon Esler Shield Champions
On Thursday 20th April, our boys’ football team travelled to Mayobridge to take on St Ronan’s, Newry, in the Final of The Canon Esler Shield. It was a nerve wrecking game with our boys showing steadfast determination, battling valiantly against a strong breeze in the first half, finishing half time 2-02 to 0:03 to their opponents.
But with a half-time team talk and a well-earned rest, our boys came back, mindset rejuvenated, with unwavering spirits, intent on taking the Shield home to Clonduff!
St Patrick’s soon picked up the pace and had a comfortable lead in the second half but with 9 minutes added time St Ronan’s played us to the wire with the final whistle declaring us winners with the finishing score board reading 3-06 to 4-02.
Congratulations to our boys, whose performance was phenomenal and true to our school’s spirit! We are so proud of every one of our fine young footballers who played in Mayobridge yesterday! Thanks to their coaches Mr McConville and Mr Flanagan and to the families and friends who came to support us.
