Anti Bullying Week, Friendship Friday and World Children’s Day (Articles 2, 12, 19 & 31)
To complete Anti-Bullying Week the children celebrated ‘Friendship Friday’ to consolidate all their learning about being kind, discussing scenarios to decide if it was bullying or inappropriate/unacceptable behaviour.
The children were looking at bucket fillers and bucket dippers. This is a child-friendly way to help the children understand how others feel when they receive a smile, something is shared with them, being asked to play with another person/group and to hear nice things being said to them. These are all bucket fillers! Sadly, we can also be a bucket dipper, at times. A bucket dipper is rude, nasty, unkind, hurtful or possessive, makes others feel sad and empties others buckets of happiness. Unfortunately the bucket dipper is also emptying his/her own bucket of happiness at the same time. P1&2 enjoyed discussing and using these new statements.
Every child in the school made a handprint to make a Pledge to help make our school and community a happy and caring place to be in. This linked very closely with Friendship Friday and the anti bullying theme ‘United Against Bullying.’
To celebrate World Children’s day the children had a fun day in school. After a little bit of work they settled down to treats and a movie - Dr Seuss and the Grinch. A very eventful and fun week!
